Clonoe O'Rahilly's GAC celebrates centenary year

19 February 2016

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Linda Dillon, hosted a civic reception last week to mark the centenary year of Clonoe O’Rahilly’s Gaelic Athletic Club.

Representatives from the football club attended the reception and were joined by Michelle O’Neill MLA and Francie Malloy MP.

Speaking at the reception, Councillor Dillon emphasised what a personal honour it was for her to hold and host the event. She said:

“It is with great pleasure that I am able to hold this event honouring such an historical year for a local club. Named after one of those who took part, and was actually killed in the 1916 Easter Rising, in this year, it is all the more fitting that we mark this special centenary anniversary.

“Clonoe O’Rahilly’s GAC has been a pillar of the local community for many years and has experienced great success at all levels with both its male and female teams, seeing many players progress to county level.

“This is a real testament to the Club’s committee and to the coaching that is done by members of the community voluntarily and is why it has become such a widely supported Club today.

“The Club’s centenary Gala takes place later this year and I know the turnout will be huge. I’m already looking forward to it!”
