‘Irish on the Move’ is the title of BEAM’s innovative community project commencing at the end of the month in the Torrent Complex, Donaghmore. BEAM are one of 25 groups from across the Mid Ulster District Council region who have availed of funding through the Irish Language Activity scheme that has been developed through the Council’s Irish Language programme.
The scheme has funded a wide range of activities from Irish classes at various levels in Dungannon, Cookstown, Eglish, Clogher Valley, Coalisland, Moy, Ballinderry, and Maghera, to other Irish language after schools and Gaelic cultural events.
BEAM Creative Network will offer the opportunity to learn Irish in a new and lively way, and aim to introduce people to basic Irish speaking lessons using creative contexts such as drama, sport, shopping, dancing & music over an eight week period.
Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Cllr. Linda Dillon said, “I would like to wish BEAM and all of the groups across the district all the best as they roll out their Irish Language activity over the coming weeks and I am delighted that Council can be of assistance to these groups. I would also encourage local communities to get involved in the diverse range of Irish Language classes and events being offered across the district. There has never been a better time to start learning Irish or to get involved in the vibrant activities and events on offer.”
Kathryn O’Neill, Manager of BEAM Creative Network said, “We are really excited about Irish on the Move, our innovative Irish lessons for the local community and I would really encourage anyone who is interested in learning some spoken Irish to come along and give it a go in a relaxed and fun context. We would like to extend our appreciation to Mid Ulster District Council for giving us the support to kick-start the Irish Language into our programme”.
Irish on the Move will take place every Monday from 7.30pm-9pm and is open to all.
