Mid Ulster District Council has lobbied Translink to keep its Cookstown bus depot open at weekends.
Councillors met with Translink on Saturday (4 November) in response to the company’s consultation on plans to close the depot on Saturdays and Sundays, calling it a ‘retrograde step’ for the town.
Deputy Chair of the Council, Councillor Mark Glasgow, attended the meeting together with Councillor Trevor Wilson who proposed the action, and said:
“We took the opportunity to highlight our concerns about what we see as a retrograde step for Cookstown.
“As well as the issue of customers being inconvenienced by a lack of facilities, particularly in poor weather, any decision of this kind runs contrary to our work to ensure our town centre is continually enhanced as an attractive, thriving place to visit and shop”.
The consultation remains open until Sunday 10 December 2017.
