Throw lines at two fishing points in Mid Ulster have been repeatedly stolen, putting lives at risk.
Mid Ulster District Council is highlighting the issue after the vital life-saving equipment has had to be replaced at 2 water recreation sites at Newferry Marina and Glenone fishing point.
In the last 2 weeks alone, 5 separate throw lines have gone missing from the fishing stands, bringing condemnation from Chair of the Council’s Environment Committee, Councillor Christine McFlynn:
“Anyone who removes this kind of vital life-saving equipment is endangering life, as well as committing a criminal offence, and I would urge those involved to recognise the serious consequences of their actions and stop.
“Council staff are checking the sites regularly and replacing the stolen equipment as quickly as possible, but any period of time without a throw line presents a risk to those using and visiting water recreational facilities”.
To report a missing throw line, please call Mid Ulster District Council on 03000 132 132 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
