To mark International Women’s Day 2018, which takes place on Thursday 8 March, two events will take place in Dungannon and Magherafelt to help empower local women and encourage them to ‘Press for Progress’ with all money raised going to Air Ambulance NI!
The first event takes place on Monday, 5 March at Hill of The O’Neill, Dungannon and will feature talks from inspirational speakers Karen Farquhar and Billy Dixon. Karen will share her story on how Air Ambulance NI saved her husband Ryan’s life following a serious motorcycle accident and Billy will share his secrets on how to build self-confidence to portray a positive personal image.
The second event takes place on Wednesday, 7 March at the Bridewell, Magherafelt with renowned speakers Dr. Janet Gray MBE, and local woman Hannah Shields. Janet, the world champion blind water-skier and Hannah, the first woman from Northern Ireland to summit Mount Everest, will share their inspirational stories of how they reached their goals and dreams.
Both events, which are organised by Mid Ulster District Council, commence at 7.15pm and will be compered by the Hub, Cookstown’s Carol Doey. Tickets cost £5 and all money raised will go to Air Ambulance NI.
As well as having the opportunity to listen to such prestigious inspirational speakers, guests can also enjoy a non-alcoholic drinks reception, refreshments, a raffle and will receive a free goodie bag!
Speaking about the events, Chair of the Council, Councillor Kim Ashton, said, “I feel very strongly and passionate about women supporting women and coming together to ‘Press for Progress’ this International Women’s Day. This is a day when we should all join in celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.
“Very fitting that this year marks 100 years since women won the right to vote. We have fantastic, capable women right across Mid Ulster and we need to support and champion one another. The fact that all proceeds from these events will go to Air Ambulance NI is an added bonus and I am delighted to be supporting such a worthy cause.”
Breige Mulholland from Air Ambulance NI added, “We are delighted that International Women’s Day is providing an opportunity to raise vital funds for Air Ambulance NI. Our Helicopter Emergency Medical Service is being tasked on average every single day to some of the most traumatic medical incidents in the region, providing emergency pre-hospital care that is truly making a difference.”
