Mid Ulster Celebrates Local Talent at Civic Honours evening!

A Civic Honours evening was recently held by Mid Ulster District Council at the Burnavon, Cookstown, with the new Chair of the Council, Councillor Sean McPeake as host, celebrating local talent and success across the district, most notably in business and sporting fields. Fourteen businesses, schools, sports teams and individuals were recognised for their success in many areas including optometry, butchery, GAA football, boxing, Céilí and Irish dancing. After the awards guests enjoyed an evening meal.

Colly Donnelly of MacMahons Butchers, Cookstown, is pictured with his wife Majella, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake, and nominating Councillors Christine McFlynn and John McNamee. Colly was recognised for his role in Team Ireland who were recently crowned World Butcher’s Challenge Champions 2018.


Holy Trinity College, Cookstown, pictured with the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake, and nominating Councillor John McNamee, was awarded for their recent GAA All Ireland Post Primary School wins in the Paddy Drummond Cup and Danske Bank MacLarnon Cup.
 

Watty Graham’s GAC Glen Senior Céilí Dancers and coaches, pictured with the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake, and nominating Councillor Brian McGuigan, were recognised for their success at the All Ireland Senior Scór Sinsir championship 2018.
 

Eva Jane Muldoon and Caoimhe Quinn from the Quinn School of Irish Dancing, Ardboe, with their coach, are pictured with the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake and nominating Councillor Ronan McGinley. The girls were awarded for their recent wins at the An Chomhdhail World Irish Dance Championship, in the Under 11 and 13 girls categories.
 

Craig Bigger, boxer from Cookstown Boxing Club, pictured with coach Chalky Kelly, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Sean McPeake, and nominating Councillor John McNamee, was awarded for his championship win of the IABA All Ireland Junior 2 Ulster Finals, 48kg weight category.
